Quote Of The Day
Time is the coin of your life, it is the only coin you have and you can determine how it will be spent.
I’ve no plan to join APC – Kashamu By: Etop Ekanem (vanguard), Oladeji Oluwaseyi
The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, has said he does not have any plans to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying, his support for the Federal government’s anti-corruption stance is not borne out of my personal interest but the interest of the masses who are in the majority and the love for the country.
‘’Our people have suffered for too long because of a greedy few who amass our commonwealth for themselves and their families,” he said.
He also said corruption must die for Nigeria to live, adding that all Nigerians must support President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war.
In a statement, the senator, who said he was not supporting the war because he planned to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, added that; “Corruption by whatever colouration is bad and inimical to our growth as a nation”.
He said successive governments had made feeble and largely showmanship attempts to contain corruption with little or no results and without a sustainable plan of action.
He said: “Let me make it abundantly clear that I am not in any way romancing the APC. If truly politics is about the people and a contest of ideas, I cannot understand why any politician that is worth the name would see an idea that will benefit the people and not support it, irrespective of political leanings. I will support good initiatives, just as I will criticise bad ones.”
‘’We must realize that the elections and campaigns are over. Whether we were elected on the platform of the PDP or APC, our people trusted us with their mandate because they know that we would represent them well and fight their course. It is a sacred responsibility that we must not betray.”
Remember The Nigeria Vs India Match That ended 99-0 ? Here’s Everything You Should Know
Virtually everybody born before the invention of the internet must have heard the tale of a nonexistent football match between Nigeria and India that obviously took place in a parallel universe and somehow we got to hear the gory stories of that match.
Though there are many variations of the story, every prevaricator seems to agree on a couple of facts about this fictional football match. Each storyteller agrees that;
1. This match ended with India scoring 99 goals and Nigeria scoring just one goal.
2. Nigerians where unable to kick the ball because the football kept turning to a lion (or something scary) to prevent them from playing the soccer ball.
3. The Indians later agreed that if Nigeria could score a goal, they would concede defeat
4. Samuel Okwaraji scored the winning goal and lost his life in the process.
5. FIFA banned India from soccer because they used black magic in that very game
With the help of common sense (not that it was absent back then), quick access to information and the internet, every right thinking Nigerian has come to realize that such a story should be filled under “Blatant Lies”.
Why Did This Story Thrive For So Long?
Most people like to pass off this story as true with the fact that no one has ever seen India in an International Football Match. Since no one actually saw India participate in most international soccer games, this gave a little credence to the story. India
Another reason this lie could thrive for long was the fact that credible information was not readily available at our finger tips. It not like every Emeka, Audu and Ojo could visit Google in a matter of minutes and tell our ominous fabricators that they should stop spreading toxic lies.
And to be honest we have a tingling feeling that this lie was concocted by an elder of a community because, let’s be honest who questions the words of the elders in Nigeria. Remember, what an adult sees sitting down a child will never see even if he consults Google, Siri or Cortana.
The Element of Truth In This Story
On the 12th of August 1989, Nigeria lost Sam Okwaraji.
Sam Okwaraji was the player rumored to have lost his life in that game when in truth he died during a FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Angola in the 77th minute.
He collapsed and died of cognitive heart failure. May his soul rest in Perfect Peace. AMEN
So that is the only truthful thing about that story, the fact that a Nigerian player died during a football match. That’s it. The match was not against India, we did not lose the match and as you must have guessed, and there were no lions either.
What Is The Deal With India Anyway?
India qualified for the 1950 FIFA world cup as a result of the withdrawal of their scheduled opponents. But the Indian football governing body, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) decided against going to the world cup, being unable to understand the importance of the event at that time.
Some of the Reasons shown by the AIFF included the cost of travel, lack of practice time, team selection issued and valuing the Olympics over the FIFA World cup. It should be noted that FIFA agreed to bear a major part of the travel expenses, but it did not really help their decision making.
Was India Banned For Refusing To Play Barefoot?
No.
The 1948 London Olympics was India’s first major international tournament, where a predominantly barefoot Indian team lost 2 -1 to France.
Following the 1948 Olympics FIFA imposed a rule banning barefoot play.
The belief that the Indian team refused to play because they were not allowed to play barefoot is not entirely true according to the then team captain who said it was just a story to cover the disastrous decision of the AFIF.
After the 1950 fiasco, India has never come close to qualifying for the World Cup.
The reason you do not see India in World Cup competitions is because they do not qualify
So Does The Indian Team Wear Soccer Boots?
Yes.
In the 1952 Olympics, the Indian team lost 10 – 1 to Yugoslavia (talking about taking a beating). As a result of this magnanimous defeat the AIFF made it compulsory for its team members to wear boots
Is it Possible to win a match with a 99 – 1 match margin?
Yes.
It is absolutely possible to rake 99 – 1 from a single football match. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and see how this is even possible. Now allow us to digress.
The highest scoring soccer game was 149-0!
You’re probably wondering how a soccer team could be so bad that they let 149 goals be scored, but the truth is it was a form of protest. The event occurred in 2002 after a 2-2 draw between rival teams Stade Olympique de L’emyrne, or SOE, and AS Adema of Madagascar, which resulted in the referees awarding a penalty causing SOE to lose the game.
During a match fixing debacle in Nigeria, the Feeders scored 72 of their 79-0 victory in 45 minutes of play. Police Machine scored 61 of their 67-0 victory in the second half. At one point, they scored four goals in a minute.
Arbroath won Bon Accord 36 – 0 in 1885. It held the largest margin of victory in professional football where both sides wanted to win.
So, yes, given the “right circumstances”, a team could actually receive 99 – 1 beating without any black magic whatsoever.

Ghanaian Actors Protest The Inclusion of “Beast Of No Nation” in Ghana Movie Awards Nominations
Ghanaian movie stars including Yvonne Nelson have voiced out their opinion over the inclusion of America produced movie “Beast of No Nation” at the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards 2016.
The movie which stars Idris Elba was shot in Ghana but according to Yvonne Nelson, that doesn’t make it a Ghana movie production.
She wrote on her social media "It’s not fair to all of us if they submit that movie because it ISP Ghanaian movie. The budgets are totally different.”

Pregnant woman loses pregnancy after torture by police
A 37-year-old woman, Risikat Bamidele, is currently receiving treatment at the Ogun State Hospital, Ijaiye after policemen allegedly tortured her on Saturday for making phone call at a police station.
Sadly, in the process, Risikat lost her nine weeks old pregnancy at the Kemta-Idi Aba police station where her husband, Tunde is being detained.
While narrating her ordeals on the hospital bed, Risikat said she was harassed by a policeman on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer for making phone calls.
She alleged that the policeman slapped her several times, while she was being pushed behind the counter. She said before her encounter with the DPO, she was trying to call her in-law who is based in Abuja on the arrest of her husband.
Risikat was said to have fainted when she got to her place of work, Catholic Comprehensive High School in the Onikolobo area.
.
Her Ordeal
Speaking at the state hospital, Risikat said: “When I got to the police station, my husband gave me his phone that I should call his brother.
While I was calling his brother, I saw one policeman, I did not know he was the DPO. He told me that I was stupid for making calls in the police environment around after eight o’clock.
“He later called a policeman to arrest me. I was harassed, pushed and brutalised. My husband saw what they were doing to me and he told them that I was pregnant and begged them not to touch me.
“But, the DPO turned deaf ears, saying they will take me to Eleweran the following day. I asked him what my offence was because I did not know what I did wrong.
I was begging them to release me because my husband was in their custody and there was nobody at home to take care of my children.
They collected my phone, I could not call anybody, it was my neighbour that took care of my children.
“In the midnight, I was having stomach pain, I called the policeman at the counter that I was having pains in my stomach but he said there was nothing he could do.
After some hours, I discovered I was bleeding, I tried explaining things to the policeman on duty but he did not listen. My husband later gave me money to get sanitary pad.
“The next morning, I was released by the policeman. They told me that he did not have right to detain me but because I did not give the DPO the phone that was why I was detained. They said, I have learnt a lesson that when an elderly man talks to me, I should answer immediately.
“I was planning to go to the hospital the following day so that I can get drugs but I went to my office to sign before going to the hospital. It was there that I collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The doctor confirmed that I had lost my nine weeks pregnancy.”
According to Vanguard, policemen attached to the police station had arrested her husband, Tunde, and three others including two suppliers and a contractor at Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta.
Tunde and the two suppliers, Ade and Olowookere, it was learned, were being owed over N500,000 by their contractor, who was identified as Bolaji, the owner of TSF Nigeria Limited.
He said he agreed to meet with Bolaji at Iyana Mortuary, before he informed Ade and Olowookere, who were also being owed for supplying materials at a construction site at Laderin Workers’ Estate, Abeokuta.
He added that he, alongside Ade and Olowookere, were arrested by policemen brought by Bolaji.
He said he tried informing the policemen that his wife was pregnant, adding: “He (DPO) commanded one police officer to bring me out of the cell, remove my clothes, pour water on my body and use tear-gas on me. I told him that I am ulcer and diabetes patient that if they want to kill me, it was better they knew.
“My wife and Bolaji slept at the back of the counter while I, Olowookere and Ade slept in the cell,” Tunde said.
He said the four of them were released on Sunday after paying N5,000 as bail for each person.
Police React
The state Police PRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, claimed the police command was not aware of the incident.
He said: “We are not aware of the matter. No one has informed us about the incident, except you newsmen. If it is true, the Commissioner of Police will be interested in the matter. We will check on the affected woman if the command is informed. The family should inform the Police about the issue and we will take it up from there.”

Joke Of The Day
Akpos goes up to the Cotonou border on his bicycle. He had over his shoulders two large bags.
The Customs Officer stopped him and asked, “What is inside the bags?” “Garri”, Akpos replied.
The Customs Officer said, “Let me see. Come down from the bicycle.” The Customs Officer took the bags and ripped them apart.
He emptied them out and found nothing in them but garri.
He detained Akpos overnight and had the garri analysed, only to discover that there was nothing but pure garri inside the bags.
The Customs Officer released him, puts the garri into new bags, lifted them onto Akpos’ shoulders, and lets him cross the border.
A week later, the same thing happened.
The Customs Officer asked, “What do you have there today?” Akpos replied, “Garri.”
The Customs officer does his thorough examination and discovered that the bags contain nothing but garri.
He gave the garri back to Akpos, and Akpos crossed the border on his bicycle.
This sequence of events was repeated every day for four years.
At last, Akpos did not show up again. One day, the Custom Officer met him in a drinking joint in Cotonou.
“Hey, my friend,” said the Customs Officer, “I know you are smuggling something. It is driving me crazy. It’s all I think about, I can’t sleep.
Just between you and I, what are you smuggling?” Akpos sipped his Hi-Malt and replied, “Bicycles!

Joke Of The Day
A policeman noticed an old lady standing on a street corner during a sudden windstorm.
She was bracing herself by holding a light post with one hand, and she was holding her hat snuggly against her head with her other hand.
Unfortunately, a strong gust blew her dress upward, and it continued to flap in the wind, exposing her privates for everyone to see.
The policeman asked, "Hey Lady, everybody is taking a look at what you`ve got. Don`t you think that pulling your dress down is more important than worrying about your hat?"
"Look, son, what these people are looking at is 60 years old. ...But the hat is BRAND NEW!"
